years, this all acoustic hardcore country band, has been luring droves of country music fans to the front lounge of The Cameron House in Toronto. For eight years they've honed their live show into a tight evening where solid playing and inspired vocals weave an intoxicating web of the great classics with their own new experiments in the old style. And now, after several Sunday morning sessions with Dale Morningstar at The Gas Station, they have released their much anticipated, self produced, debut CD entitled, Saturday Matinee. All of the songs on this CD were recorded live off the floor perserving the energy and performance of this truly dynamic musical act. Band members are: Rod Booth, fiddle-Cindy Matthews, vocals-Kevin Quain, accordion/piano/vocals-Jack Nicholsen, vocals/guitar-Sam Ferarra, percussion-Tony Benattar, bass/dobro.
Their new CD entitled, Saturday Matinee, contains some of the great songs of Country Music, from Canada's own Bob Nolan to hit maker Fred Rose, as well as some very solid originals. Here are some other facts about the band: Rod Booth-His background spans all musical styles. He was a violinist for the Victoria Symphony Orchestra. He plays taditional Irish fiddle to rock, folk blues, jazz and country. Cindy Mattthews is the operating Manager/Co owner of the famous Cameron House and vocalist. Kein Quain is a singer/songwriter and fronts The Mad Bastards every Sunday at the Cameron. Jack Nicholsen is also a singer/songwriter as well as an actor and former member of Juno Awards winning Capitol recording artists, The Leslie Spit Treeo. Sam Ferarra was formerly bassist for punk bastions The Viletones and lead vocalist/bassist for his own Sceamin' Sam. He is also an accomplished Toronto metal sculptor. Tony Benatrtar is owner of the Liberty Boot Company whose clients range from Steve Tyler of Aerosmith to Madonna.
