Bagpipes and rock music into a high energy, Celtic influenced rock sound. Combing various musical backgrounds, Empty Flask creates a vibrant new sound of their own. Crossing many genres, appealing to the Celtic traditionalist to the rock, pop, and folk audiences. The band hails from Barrie, Ontario and performs year around at local pubs, and Celtic Festivals, wearing kilts and playing for the love of music.The band perform a lot of their original tunes and cover many bands music such as, Great Big Sea, Spirit of The West, Rawlins' Cross and Steven Nations, to name a few. Empty Flask has also adapted traditional Irish and Scottish tunes annd enchanced them with drums and guitars for a new danceable and singable song that everyone is sure to enjoy.
Meet the band members: Ewan Brown from Barrie, Ont., plays bagpipes guitar, tin whistle, mandolin, bodhran and keyboard. Ewan has played the Great Highland Bagpipes or over 20 years in various pipe bands. T.B. (Marv) Bishop, was born in Orillia, Ont. For the past 30 years, Marv has played 6 & 12 string acoustic and electric guitars, bass, harmonica and bagpipes in various folk, pop rock, swing and pipe bands. Singing has been a part of his life and an accomplished songwriter as well. Doug Cunningham, band drummer, was born in Calgary, Alberta and lives in Barrie. He has played drums for numerous bands in the past including, concert bands, drum and bugle bands, rock, country and top 40 bands. The newest band member is Bryan Johnstone. He was born in Barrie and is third generation of Johnstone's selling and serviving musical instruments in the Barrie Area. He plays Bass for the band and has had much experience performing for several rock bands in the past.
A highlite of their career thus far, was being acting as musical ambassadors for Alexander Keith's music tour in 2003 and Ontario dates in 2002. They travelled across Canada in 2003. Empty Flask has recently released an incredible CD entitled, Got Air? and is rated high on Atlantic Seabreeze listings.
