Heather is known for her interpretations of the ancient King Arthur legends and writes music which capture the values and challenges of life in the age of chivalry. Her recordings feature rich vocals and arrangements, with thoughtful lyrics which bring new life to age-old ideas. She is known in the worldwide Medieval re-enactment community as Mistress Marian of Heatherdale.Heather just released on May 2/03 her fourth album entitled MAY QUEEN. On the album, she sings about the age-old ideas of love, tragedy and honour in the ten original songs she wrote. The album contains some of Toronto's top session musicians and Heather a multi-instrumentalist, melds her powerful vocals with creative performances.
Heather's lifelong passion for music began with childhood piano lessons and poetry endeavours. Her passion led her to learn a wide array of folk and classical instruments, including soprano and alto recorders, trumpet, hammered dulcimer, bowed psaltery, tin whistle and Irish bodhran drum. Her greatest, is her unbelievable strong voice. In 1993, she began composing songs, based on historical themes. After graduating from University of Waterloo for Environment & Resource Studies and working for awhile as an environmental educator, she decided to persue a music carer full time, and never looked back.
With four Albums to her credit, including her latest release, MAY QUEEN, Heather is on her way to a very exciting music career. With a strong fan base following in Europe, Australia and North and South America, and the release of her new album, she is now set to reach an even broader audience and can carve a place in the minds of Celtic music fans all over the world. Heather has developed in 1998 a record label called Amphisbaena (am-fizz-BAY-nah) that supports artists inspired by the past. Information can be found on her label website: www.amphismusic.com.
Heather really believes that the future of the music industry lies with Independent artists and small-scale record labels. And with this in mind, the reward is creative and financial freedom, as well as a closer connection with all the fans.
