Eddie Eastman born in Terra Nova, Newfoundland in 1950, was Canada's
top Male Country Artist in the late 1970's and early 1980's and won two Canadian Juno's, on in 1981, and the other in 1983 for Country Male Vocalist of the year. Eddie now makes his home in Nashville, Tenn., where he lives with his family and continues to write songs, and performs when he gets a chance. Eddie always returns to his home in Newfoundland, and performs in Canada on occasion as well. In fact, he gladly accepted to take center stage at the first annual East Coast Music Festival, north of Barrie, Ontario this coming July 1/02 weekend. Eddie is anxious to perform again for his Canadian fans and meeting many of them.
Eddie was a household name in Canada in the 70's & early 80's and he performed all over Canada and sold countless albums. He first performed at age 9 and his major influences at that time were, Webb Pierce, Ernest Tubb, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard and Charley Pride. In 1976, Eddie married Pauline Blackwood of St. John's, Newfoundland. Eddie rose to fame in 1977 with his smash hit, Eastbound 401 and rose to No 1 on the Country Music Charts. As a result of his popularity, he was honoured with the following awards:
1978- RPM Awards Choice-(Best New Artist of The Year)
1979-RPM's choice for Top Male Vocalist
1980-CCMA for Male Vocalist
1981-Juno Award for Country Male Vocalist of the Year
1982-The ICMA Country Male Vocalist of The Year
1983-A second Juno award for Country Male Vocalist of the Year
In 1980, Eddie made his International debut at the Marlboro International Music Festival of Country Music at Wembley Stadium in England. Due to his popularity at the time, he appeared on several television shows in Canada & the USA and even had his own television show in 1984 and 1985 shown on CBC in the Maritimes.
In 1985, Eddie recorded his fourth album entitled, The Winnipeg Side. In 1987, Eddie moved to Nashville wher he felt he may break into the USA market, however things didn't work out that way, but he continued to write for other artists. He released two more albums-1990-Living In The Fast Lane and in 1992-Trying To Make A Living and he continues to tour in support of these albums. Update as of April 5, 2004
Eddie was special guest at The Loft, in Newcastle, Ontario on April 4, 2004 with one of Canada's top Country Music Artists, Johnny Burke. Eddie performed acoustically with Johnny and sang many of his former hit songs and included some new material as well. As a surprise, he introduced his 18 year old daughter, Sherida, who sang four songs which blew the audience away with her fine singing. Eddie introduced his first debut CD. The amazing CD
