ASAengusFinnanCDfoolsgoldCover.jpg ASAengusFinnanProfileShotii.jpg Aengus Finnan, an outstanding singer-songwriter, was born in Dublin, Ireland, but immigrated to Canada when he was 4 years old with his family. Aengus was always was involved in story, song and theatre all his life and is 29 years old. He toured all over Canada and explored the Country when he was 16. While growing up, Aengus idolized singers like Gordon Lightfoot, Ryan’s Fancy and Stan Rogers. His writing style and songs, reflects his travels and experiences he encountered while teaching school in Northern Ontario, and traveling across the Country.

Both his parents were actors in Ireland, and acting rubbed off on Aengus as well. He performed in many Montreal Productions. His debut CD entitled, Fool’s Gold, was recorded by acclaimed producer Paul Mills, (who produced all Stan Rogers Albums). The recording is a collection of stunning original works and was recently nominated Folk/Roots Album of The Year by Canada Music Week. Since the CD’s debut, he toured across Canada from Coast to Coast, and held school workshops in Western Canada.

He shared the stage in the past, with Garnet Rogers, James Keelaghan, Stephen Fearing, Tanglefoot, Tamarach and John Renbourn. Aengus has been featured coast to coast on a number of CBC programs, enjoyed 35 consecutive weeks of radio airplay in the US, and hosted a TV commercial for the 40th Mariposa Folk festival. Presenters in the B.C. Touring Council nominated Aengus, Touring Artist of The Year, and his songwriting earned him a Songs From The Heart Award, from the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals.

In 2000, his Shelter Valley Productions, was awarded the New Business Award in Cobourg. He was invited to present business plan workshops for the Folk Alliance, the OCFF, and Artists in the Yukon. Aengus is being touted as the next torchbearer in Canada’s folk tradition.

Looking at his recent schedule for 2002, it looks very busy with shows in Ontario and Western Canada for March and April and some dates booked already for May in the USA. He performs at Hugh’s Room in Toronto on May 17. For more information regarding Aengus and his music, check his above website address.

Fool's Gold, Aengus's Debut Album, was recorded in 1999 and contains 12 songs all of which greatly sung by Aengus Finnan. Some song titles are: The Blackleg Miner-The War Bride's Waltz-Lately-Sweet Evelina-Black Is The Colour-Fool's Gold and seven more.
