Terry Penney, age 31 is a singer/songwriter/guitar player from Lewisporte, Newfoundland, now living in St. John’s. Terry a gifted singer/songwriter is raising eyebrows since the release of his first fine CD in 1999 entitled, take back two, and what a fine CD it is! All ten songs were written by Terry, and is a collection of original material from rock and roll to pop to country. The album was co-produced by himself and Vaughan Rowsell. The material is fresh and covers situations of every day life. Some song titles are: Thrown Down My Guns, Rubber Arm Twist, Take Back Two, Move On, They Don’t Play Elvis and more.

Terry was involved in music since he was ten years old having been introduced to music by his parents whose record collection contained records by Elvis, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. Later he grew up to the music of Chris de Burgh, Tom Cochrane and Steve Earle. When listening to the CD, one can clearly distinguish the great sounds of these artists in his voice.

Terry and his band, Three Steps Back, performed in central and southern Newfoundland for seven years and gained a hugh following. In 1997 he got married and moved to St. John’s and began writing material for his first album, take back two. He assembled some well-known musicians such as Glenn Simmons and Dave Fitzpatrick from The Fables, Bryon Pardy from Ron Hynes’ band, Bryan Way and Christina Smith.

Terry’s music is being played on various radio stations, from adult/contemporary/rock’n’roll to country in Newfoundland, which is really encouraging news to Terry. In November 1999, Terry was nominated for two Music Industry Association of Newfoundland awards- Male Artist of The Year and Country Artist of The Year. He is now currently writing material for his second album. He is also busy performing throughout Newfoundland & Labrador.
