Winnie began to take violin lessons at age 9 and since then never looked back. She became well-versed in both classical and traditional Scottish styles of playing.
Winnie selected tunes (jigs) taught to her by her father for the competition with her daughter Pat on the piano. The whole theatre clapped and sang and gave Winnie a standing ovation.
Winnie won many honours over the years, however the Canadian Grand Masters Lifetime Achievement Award was something special, Winnie commented.
In 1964, Winnie was the first woman to win the International Fiddling Championship held in Pembroke, Ontario. At this competition she was one of only two women to take part in the competition of about 90 people.
