NOMINEES ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2006 INDIES – THE 6TH ANNUAL INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS
Canadian Music Week is proud to announce the nominees for the 2006 Indie Awards. Taking place on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at The Docks Concert Theatre (11 Polson Street) in Toronto, The Indies celebrate the best in independent music. Presented by Sympatico.MSN.ca, and sponsored by Max Trax, Eye Weekly, FACTOR, XM Satellite Radio, Galaxie, The SOCAN Foundation, CAAMA, and Chart, this year’s Indie Awards show will be hosted by the Trailer Park Boys and feature performances from several of the nominees, as well as Indies Hall of Fame inductees The Pursuit of Happiness and The Parachute Club. Nominees are selected by committees of industry professionals from all areas of the music scene and winners will be decided by a combination of public and industry voting.

Fans will have the opportunity to cast their votes for their favourite independent artists at www.cmw.net, as of 9:00 AM on Monday, January 16th. The voting polls will be open for four weeks, closing at midnight the night of Sunday, February 12th
In addition to the above Awards, this year will also include the presentation of the Galaxie Rising Stars Award, which helps new artists make a name for themselves in the Canadian music industry. This year the Award will be a Critics’ Choice where music journalists across Canada vote to determine the winner. Nominees for the 2006 Galaxie Rising Stars Award will be announced soon.
