have just released their second CD in July 2004 entitled, ON FIRE. The CD contains 12 songs and are sung by the Cottars just like the CD title depicts. ON FIRE. The amazing CD is certainly their best effort to date and it clearly shows how experience and age makes such a difference in the quality of their music. Without a doubt, The Cottars are one of the hottest groups in the folk world of music. The Cottars have become Cape Breton Island's latest musical success story in a remarkably short period of time. The four Cottars are: Ciaran and Fiona MacGillivray (brother & sister) and Jimmy and Roseanne MacKenzie (brother & sister) and have been playing traditional music since early childhood. Their ages range from 14-17 and all are multi-instrumentalists, singers and stepdancers. The 12 tracks on the CD are brilliantly performed by The Cottars and bring to the listeners a whole brand of new freshness to many of the old songs.
Here are the song titles: Ready For The Storm-Calling On Song-Bodhran/Fiddle Medley-Loch Tay Boat Song-Planxty Mira Medley-Cape Breton Lullaby-Boholla Medley-The Wild Goose-The Guitar Jigs-Reconciliation-Celtic Harp Medley and The Parting Glass.
John McDermott joins the Cottars on one of the songs entitled, Reconciliation. This inspiring song written by Ron Kavana is gracefully performed, a song which involves lovers in both the North and South of Ireland representing reconciliation. All the individual group members shine throughout the album, and special mention is given to Ciaran MacGillivray who sings the ballad, Loch Tay Boat Song to perfection. This tender Scottish love song is given special open-tuning treatment by Ciaran.
