He collaborated with young 14 year old Poet Mattie J.T. Stepanek and produced thisASBillyGilmanandMattieJTStepanek.jpg outstanding CD. Billy became an instant media sensation in 2000 with the release of his debut single, One Voice. He sold millions of records, won many awards and, importantly, thanks to noted CNN talk show host Larry King, met a young poet named Mattie Stepanek. Three years later, Gilman and Stepanek, who has himself sold more than 1.5 million copies of his books, have joined together to create an album based upon Mattie's poems for Billy's new release: Music Through Heartsongs.

Stepanek was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, an incurable disease that progressively weakens the muscels. His mother Jeni, also has MD and has lost 3 other children to the disease. At age 3, Stepanek began writing poems to help him deal with the illness, and by age 11, he was a published author. Gilman's song One Voice theme paralleled the ideas that inspired Stepanek's work-hope and peace. As a result of the boys meeting on King's show, an immediate bond took place, and Gilman inspired by the poetry of Stepanek immediately wanted to get the message out to the whole world in song.

And the project went straight ahead, with production of the CD -produced by by David Malloy, who also co-produced Gilman's previous three releases. The CD features some of music's most outstanding songwriters, puting their own special musical interpretations to Mattie's poetry such as Richard Leigh, Tom Douglas, Bruce Roberts, Randle Chowning, James Slater and David Malloy. Some song titles are: For Our World-About Things That Matter-Morning Gift-I Am/Shades of Life-It Happened Anyway-Possession and six more.To purchase this fine CD, check your local music store.
