The Fables are ECMA 2001 WINNERS-Entertainer Group of The Year. During 2001, they released their second CD, entitled,* A TIME*, which by all accounts, and feedback from across the Country, that this CD is one of the top CD's produced in Canada this year. Their music is heard throughout Europe and is a major hit in Australia as well.
The Fables, one of Newfoundland’s most popular Celtic Groups are certainly making a name for themselves in Music. Group members are D’Arcy Broderick, Glenn Simmons, Billy Sutton, Dave Fitzpatrick and Clyde Wiseman. D’Arcy Broderick, co-founder of the famous, The Irish Descendants, who earlier left the Group, now leads The Fables onward, and it appears that the Group are heading to the top in the music world. They were recent 1999 nominees at The ECMA’S 2000, for Group of the Year and their first Album, Tear The House Down, was nominated for Album of The Year. They also won several awards at the Newfoundland Music Awards earlier in the year. They also performed on the ECMA Awards TV Show across Canada in February 2000. Tear The House Down, The Fables first album, was among the best selling albums by any East Coast act in 1999. Their secret: talent, experience and enthusiasm. The Fables are in high demand for their performances, and are continually on tour across Canada. They just finished in March 2000, a tour to Western Canada and performed in The Dominican Republic in early April. They stopped in Toronto on their way out West for one performance, and the audience were treated to a class A performance. They have returned in mid-April to Newfoundland, where they will start to record their second album was released in 2001. Once released, The Fables went on an extensive tour of Canada. The new album contains 13 songs,arranged by Fable members.
Meet The Fables:
D’Arcy Broderick-Plays guitar, fiddle and mandola as well as providing vocals, hails from one of Newfoundland’s most distinguished traditional music families. While he was with The Irish Descendants, he performed on three gold records and played at sold out concerts throughout Canada, the United States, Ireland and Poland. Also, received many prestigious awards with the Irish Descendants namely, the Gabriel Award, East Coast Music awards, and a Juno Award.
Glenn Simmons-Guitarist and vocalist, is the driving force behind The Fables Celtic Melodies, and is recognized as one of Atlantic Canada’s prominent musicians. He worked previously with famous Ron Hynesand toured across Canada with him. Glenn’s presence was really felt on their new album with his writing, arranging and producing.
Billy Sutton-A multi-instrumentalist. He plays banjo, mandola, bouzouki, accordian, bodhran and mandolin as well as vocal work. Billy is well respected as a multi-instrumentalist, and previously performed with popular Newfoundland Acts such as, Irish Coffee, Manchester Run and The Fat Catlicks. He also played with the Irish Descendants, Jimmy Carton Band and the Paddy Noonan Band.
Dave Fitzpatrick-Percussionist, guitarist and vocalist, is an accomplished performer, with close to two decades of experience in Canada and the U.S. As a studio musician, he has worked on 14 albums with some of Newfoundland’s finest talent. Dave as a producer, he has 3 albums to his credit plus his own solo album.
Clyde Wiseman-Bass player and vocalist draws on his years of experience as a performer on stage, in the studio, on radio & TV. He’s performed on the television show, A Wicked Night Out with the Newfoundland Kitchen Band, and as a session musician with several well-known artists, among them Ron Hynes, Kelly Russell and Eddie Eastman.

The Fables returned to Nashville North, in Norval, Ontario on March 15/02 and performed an amazing Concert to almost 800 people. For show review, check under News on this website. They are planning a new CD at the moment, and hope to have it released later this summer.
