The Rolling Kings, are the latest Celtic Bands out of Newfoundland & Labrador and are nominated for an ECMA 2014 for their debut album RAISE A GLASS. This is quite an accomplishment for a new band and isn't it any wonder why they were nominated, as their music and songs are unbelievable. Their first award, they won Fans choice of the year with MusicNL in the fall of 2013

They are a five piece band whose new album Raise a Glass combines updated traditional songs with well written originals. Bucking the tradition of most bands, they have 3 different singers taking on the lead vocals. They play all traditional instruments clean and without any distoration or other such effects. This combied with well through arrangements, combine to form a stellar debut album. The Rolling Kings are: Michael Barker, drums - Robert Cahill, mandolin - Mike Dawe, guitar - Paul Hayward, tin whistle - Dean Noseworthy, bass.

Songs are written or arranged with one of the three in mind, giving variety within every show. In spite of the differences between the three singers, every song is distinctly and recognizably a tune of The Rolling Kings. But the group's unique sound can't only be attributed to vocal stylings alone. With unique playing styles, creative arrangements and a lot of practice, the group create a variety of sounds ranging from a clean, upbeat, bright Celtic dance tune, to gritty and heavy Paddy Rock song.

The Band took its name from the lyrics of the Old Shanty, South Australia. They are based in St. John's. NL and the band draws influences from the roots music of Newfoundland and Ireland but also from rock, folk and countless other genres when writing or arrangements.
