The music community in Toronto and area, were shocked today, January 8, 2016 when Richard Carson, Owner announced that he is closing Hugh's Room January 8, 2016 as an In-house emergency. Hugh's Room is not in bankruptcy Richard elaborated, and is closing for the time being due to financial difficulties. Hugh's Room is one of Canada's premier live music venues.

This was devasting news for the music community as Hugh's Room hosted thousands of concerts for the past 16 years which opened in April 2001. The venue was a hidden gem for concerts and musicians raved over its acoustics and food as well. The Arrogant Worms an exciting group are very sad, as they performed 29 shows over the years.

Included in the thousands of artists who performed at Hugh's Rooms over the 16 year were, Pete Seeger, Serena Ryder, Sylvia Tyson, Odella, Lennie Gallant, the late Ron Hynes, Jimmy Rankin, June Siberry, Ron Sexsmith, Gordon Lightfoot, JP Cormier, Alan Doyle, Ken Whiteley, Garnet Rogers, Carlos del Junco, Alfie Zappacta and the list goes on and on.

Atlantic Seabreeze is in shock as well, as it has promoted and supported Hugh's Room since its beginning. Richard (Owner) always supported the Atlantic Seabreeze Newspaper for years with their monthly schedule of events.

It was a dark day for all music artists who performed there , a so-called Music City. We wish Richard all the best, and hope that he may recover his financial difficulties and open Hugh's Room again down the road.
