Stevedore Steve (Foote), singer/songwriter from Saint John, NB. has passed away on October 14 at age 80.

Steve was known for his hit song in 1967, LESTER THE LOBSTER. Steve suffered from Stomach cancer. Steve released 4 albums, had his own TV show in Toronto and was good friends with the late Stompin' Tom Connors.

He wrote hundreds of songs including Lester The Lobster. It included lyrics like, I was hatched on the shores in the PEI mud and the colour of the Island soil has gotten in my blood. Gini Steve's wife said the song paid their rent and its success was a surprise to him.

Gini said her husband of almost 50 years loved Canada and was a wonderful husband and a great entertainer. She said the best years for him were when he was on the road.

Stevedore Steve donated his body to Science at Dalhousie University.
