Maurice White Founder of Earth,Wind and Fire Dies
In Los Angeles at 74 Years Old

Maurice White, the founder and leader of Earth, Wind & Fire has died on Feb 3, 2016. He died at home in Los Angeles at 74 years old. Maurice had a long battle with Parkinsons diagnosed in 1992 and stopped touring in 1994.

He was a former session drummer and founded Earth, Wind and Fire in the late 1960's. The group sold more than 90 million albums worldwide. They displayed a flashy and electric musical style that incorporated his influences from growing up in Memphis, Tennessee and working at the influential Chicago music labels Chess and Okeh.

The band's many hits included September, Shining Star, a cover of the Beatles, Got To Get You Into my Life and Boogie Wonderland.

The band won six Grammys and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 and Maurice was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.
