Pictou County, N.S. fiddler Fleur Mainville passed away on Wednesday, Jan 21 at the age of 37 after a battle with carcinoid cancer since 2008. The cancer left but returned in 2014. She leaves behind her husband Andrew Heighton and 2 adopted children, a son Dominique 10 and a daughter Ava 5 whom her husband and she adopted in 2014.

As well as being a fiddler, she was known as an active volunteer and fundraiser. Dave Gunning and John Spyder MacDonald performed with Fleur many times. She even was a radio host and a farmer market manager. She had a beautiful touch on the fiddle and was a great singer as well. Fleur was one of those that stood out from the rest and was a humble and a very giving person.

Fleur also taught music to children and gave young dancers a stage to perform on. She had been a member of the popular Celtic band MacKeel when she was a teenager. After a few years, she went solo and released a number of fiddle CD's and even began to sing later on as a solist with her CD entitled, My Rare One.

Her lasting legacy will be serving as an inspiration and mentor to generations of fiddlers.
