Christy McLaughlin, founding member of The Carlton Showband, passed away in Toronto peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Christy was 70 years old and he suffered cancer of the throat off and on for 28 years. He had to leave the band in 1981 due to health problems. He was known in the band for his up- tempo Irish songs and country ballads. Fans will remember him at the Carlton Showband dances where he always sang the fan favourite, BLACK VELVET BAND while playing his accordion.

Christy's brown wavy hair and infectious smile broke the hearts of thousands of women. The older ones wanted to mother him while the younger ones wanted to marry him. Christy was born in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He leaves behind his wife, Jennifer and many brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews in Canada, Ireland, England and USA.
